Detailed description of topics:

  • Profile theory and profile design.

  • Unsteady lifting surface analysis and design of propellers.

  • Panel codes for the design and analysis of propellers.

  • Effective wake calculations.

  • Cavitation and scale effects on cavitation.

  • State of the art in Navier Stokes calculations of the flow around the hull and wake.

  • Special propulsors

Remarks (specific information about assessment, entry requirements, etc.):
The second half of the course (6 lectures of 2 hours)  is used to discuss recent litterature. Two students present a selected paper in about 20 minutes and the paper is discussed by the lecturer. In some cases other specialists are invited. The presentation is  discussed in advance with the lecturer (about 1 hour). The assessment after the presentation (15 minutes) determines the grade.
In this way a maximum of 24 students can follow the course.
