The lectures are intended to give a general orientation on the phenomena, Law, placed within a broad social framework. In addition the differences in ways of thinking between a graduate in technical engineering and a lawyer will be illustrated.

Detailed description of topics:

The main topics of the lectures are:

  • The significance of patents, brands, models and trade names in industrial life.

  • The concept of law. The purpose of the las. Compulsive law and regulatory law.

  • Public law. Distinction between legislation, jurisdiction and administration.

  • The purpose of civil law. An outline of business law and of contract law.

  • Labour law (lay-offs, strikes etc.)

  • Tort law.

  • Law of the working councils.

  • Law as a tool for conflict resolution.

  • Environmental law.

  • Company law. (n.v., b.v.)
