Detailed description of topics:

The design project is aimed at the design of a mechanical device. A design-problem will be translated into technical specs. Main and sub-functions will be discerned and the possibilities to materialize these functions. The result of the design-process is a design-file, with essays, calculations, sketches and drawings. When possible, a prototype will be made and tested. The student will defend his design orally and in writing.

Mark will depend on: Design-file, weekly discussions with staff, essays and speeches.

Goals:

Learning to translate a design-problem into a mechanical device. Defending the design.

Computer use:

Introduction to CAD, drawing of parts and assembly. Writing essays.

Laboratory project(s):

The project will be completed in two consecutive dimesters. The project can start at the beginning of each dimester. (Maximum of 50 students can enter.)

Design content:

The project is aimed at the complete design process, including design making, choice of system, choice of materials, calculations and production.
