Detailed description of topics:

Ø     Chracteristics of assembly in different segments (capital goods, consumer products, electronic assembly, microassembly);

Ø     The assembly process;

Ø     Industrial assembly technology, programming and control (follow-up of wb5420);

Ø     Concepts for assembly systems, internal logistics;

Ø     Design For Assembly (DFA);

Ø     Methods for the design of assembly systems;

Ø     Investment decisions;

Ø     Case study: designing an assembly system for an industrial product. Will be done groupwise.

Course material: reader, will be made available at the start of the course.

Remarks (specific information about assesment, entry requirements, etc.): Duringthe course an examination will assess the individual knowledge level. Next, assessment will be based on the laboratory project and the case study.

Goals: Gaining knowledge and skills in industrial assembly, in order to be able to (guide the) development and implementation of assembly systems.

Computer use: Design For Assembly software, assembly system simulation software.

Laboratory project(s): Programming of an assembly system.

Design content: design of assembly systems, integral with the (re)design of the product from the viewpoint of assemblability.
