Detailed description of topics:
The exercise consists of a COD test with a test piece that has had prior fatigue crack growth testing. These tests have as goal to increase the insight of crack growth and fracture chracteristics of steels used in shipbuilding and the offshore industry. A materials test looks into the macro structure in welds and the HAZ. The results of the tests will be compared with fracture mechanics theory.
Two vibration tests are included. One concerns a beam clamped at one end. The other consists of a beam partly submerged in water and representing a ship undergoing forced vibrations.
