Detailed description of topics:

  • 3d trusses, calculation of displacements, internal forces and reactive forces, analysis of stress and strain, yield criteria (Von Mises, Tresca).

  • plastic limit analysis, plastic hinges, collapse mechanisms, displacements and stresses due to plate bending.

  • buckling of columns, shear center, general theory of torsion applied to open and closed beam sections with and without warping prevention.

  • introduction to the finite element method (displacement method), 2D an 3D trusses and beam structures, stiffness matrices, coordinate transformations, characteristics of global stiffness matrix, prescribed displacements, assembly and solution of the finite element equations
