Detailed
description of topics: Project task will be worked out by a group of 4 students.
Thermodynamic cycles for power generation and refrigeration/heatpumps
- process diagrams and p,V-, T,s-, h,s-, p,h- diagrams
- energy flows, efficiency, coefficient of performance
- comparison theoretical and actual process
Design of combined heat/electricity generation plant:
- calculation of heat and electricity needs
- evaluation of different options to meet demands on basis of economic and ecological
criteria
- engineering: determination of type and dimensioning of equipment, process and
instrumentation diagrams, control, economic analysis, emissions.
Modelling of and measurements on a diesel engine:
- modelling of diesel engine as a Seiliger cycle, energy flows, theoretical and actual
efficiency
- determination of instrumentation
- measurement of heat balance, efficiency, fuel and air consumption and emissions for
different types of engine loading e.g. according propeller law or constant speed operation
