Detailed description of topics:
Specific design problems of ships for transport of passengers and freight and of mobile offshore platforms.
Aattention is given in particular to recent developments with regard to: container ships, ships for heavy unconventional cargo, refrigerated container ships, gas carriers, crude carriers, Ro-Ro ships, cruise ships, jack up platforms, semi submersible drilling units, floating production units, tension leg platforms. Economical aspects in marine design.

Goals:
The course is designed to provide students with methods and knowledge for the design of various types of ships and offshore units

Computer use:
In the design exercise related to this course (mt111p) use is made of computer programmes for the analysis of hydrostatics and stability, resistance and propulsion, volumes and weights etc. For the visualisation use is made of a 3D CAD system.

Laboratory project(s):
The lectures are followed by a ship design exercise (mt111p) of 10 DUT credits
