Detailed description of topics:
  • Predict and validate motions of a cylinder in waves from oscillation, excitation and free floating tests (3 shifts)
  • Determine the heave, pitch and added resistance of a fishing vessel in head waves (1 shift)
  • Validate Delfrac and Seaway (3D panel program and 2D strip theory program)
  • Obligatory questions from the manual concerning the cylinder and the fishing vessel

All test results and additional questions are worked out during the testing.

Remarks (specific information about assesment, entry requirements, etc.):
  • Written questions have to be made in advance of the laboratory work.
  • Entry requirements : Open for all students studying or having studied the course mt513. Upon start of the laboratory work the questions from the manual have to be made. Students not having made the questions from the manual prior to the experiments will not be allowed to participate in the laboratory work !
  • Registration information is published at least 6 weeks before start of laboratory exercise on the publication boards in the hall. After registration the manual is available from the lecturer.
  • Assessment is made on experimental participation and written questions (satisfactory / unsatisfatory) 
Goals:
  • Familiarisation with experimental techniques to study ship hydrodynamics
  • Application of theoretical knowledge from mt513 
Computer use:
Use is made of spreadsheets for preparation of obligatory questions and to work out test results. Use is made of data aquisition program for data measurement and presentation. The output of ship motion programs is used for validation of the test results.

Design content: Hullform design regarding motions in waves is demonstrated by several examples.
