Detailed description of topics:
Three advanced topics in the field of ship and offshore structures will be dealt with each year.

·         Each odd  week, a topic is introduced by an expert during a lecture of 3 hrs.

·         Subsequently, the students have to work in groups on a task as defined by the expert.

·        The results of the task are presented and discussed in the next even week.

Remarks (specific information about assesment, entry requirements, etc.):
Attendance during all meetings for the introduction and the presentation of the three topics is a requirement. Each student has to spend approximately 15 hrs to finalize the task for each topic.

Credits will be given on basis of the student’s participation.

Goals:
To be able to:

·         understand and evaluate more advanced topics in the field of ship and offshore structures,

·         get more insight in the methods to deal with new developments in the field,

·         use of first principles in the field,

·        recognize how new developments may require additional and new knowledge.

The topics dealt with will in general have direct or indirect impact on the design of ship and offshore structures. The tasks will address this aspect.
