Detailed
description of topics: The course is organised as a project, where introductory
lectures, a guided group-process and individual study should lead to sufficient knowledge
of:Computer systems and networks, the operating system Windows.
Presenting results using a wordprocessor and using a presentation program (PowerPoint).
Searching information and recent research using the Internet.
Processing and analysing information using a spreadsheet (Excel).

Remarks
(specific information about assessment, entry requirements, etc.):
- Before the start of the project, the student
receives a project description; actual and detailed guidelines however, are always on the
web site of the project.
- The student is expected to gain a great part
of the required knowledge by self-study, and by cooperation within his project group.
- The course material includes a set of tasks
to be practised with for acquiring the necessary skills. Each group of about 5 students
has a computer at its disposal, to be used for these tasks.
- Assessment of both the group and the
individual student is done by the tutor of the group and the lecturer during the rostered
project hours.

Goals:
- Getting an understanding about the
possibilities an the use of computer systems, both at the faculty and at home.
- The use of information systems, within the
university and outside.
- Giving a general approach and tools for
getting and processing information, making reports and presenting results.

Computer
use: Hands-on for all students as far as Windows-applications and Internet are
concerned. |
Laboratory
project(s): Practicals are done at the available pc's using the given tasks. |
