Detailed description of topics:
Heat capacity and heat- and Gibbs energy of reaction data,and equations of state nescessary for the calculation of thermodynamic quantities.Estimation of thermodynamic data,using for example the corresponding states principle and group contribution methods.Non ideal behaviour of pure substances and mixtures whereby properties of the chemical potential,the fugacity and the activity will be considered.The notion of exergy as used for chemical conversions.Application to physical processes such as separations and chemical reactions such as combustion.

Course material:

Remarks (specific information about assesment, entry requirements, etc.):
Make use of the subscription-list of the student-administration of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technology to join the written examination.By making ten problems during the lecture period three extra marks for the written examination can be obtained.All kinds of information may be used and especially the book of Smith & Van Ness must be used during the written examination.

Goals:
To make the student profecient in the practical application of thermodynamics for equipment and process calculations

Computer use:
To work out the problems the use of a computer is necessary

Laboratory project(s):

Design content:
This subject is an important component of process design and simulations

Percentage of design: 50%
