q       3d beam structures: calculation of displacements, internal forces and reactive forces,

q       Analysis of stress and strain, yield criteria (Von Mises, Tresca).

q       Displacements and stresses due to plate bending.

Learning goals:

The student must be able to:

  1. Understand the theory of bending of unsymmetric beams, and apply it to simple cases

  2. Apply the analysis of simple static undefined 3D beam structures

  3. Understand the analysis of stress and strain and theories of failure (Von Mises and Tresca), and apply it to simple cases of combined stress

  4. Understand the theory of plate bending and apply the results to laterally loaded rectangular plates with mixed boundary conditions

  5. Calculate buckling of beams and simple beam structures
