In September 2003 Delft University of Technology starts the new two-year MSc program in Systems and Control. This program is directed towards the fundamental and application specific aspects of systems, signals and control engineering. It will emphasize the multidisciplinary character of this field.

The start of this MSc program is strongly related to the establishment in 2003 of the Delft Center for Systems and Control (DCSC), a merging of three former systems and control groups of the departments of electrical engineering (ITS), mechanical engineering (OCP) and applied physics (TNW). This center is housed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technology.

The MSc-program will give attention to applications in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics, chemical engineering and aerospace engineering, among which:

  • Mechatronics, microsystems (MEMS), production systems, robotics, smart structures.

  • (Petro)chemical/physical and biotechnological production processes

  • Transportation systems (automotive systems, logistic systems, aerospace)

  • Physical imaging systems (acoustic and optical imaging)

  • Energy conversion and -distribution

  • Biomedical engineering

The program is oriented towards students from a variety of backgrounds in engineering. The program will be interesting and challenging, and it will provide top-quality expertise and skills for a successful professional career in either research, technology development, or any other professional environment.
Through the combination of the above mentioned disciplines the presentation of an integrating approach to systems and control engineering is enabled, with attention for both physical (first principles) modelling, experiment design, signal analysis and signal processing, experimental modelling, model-based control design, hardware and software systems, and this for systems of high complexity and of different nature (linear and nonlinear dynamics, hybrid and embedded systems, from small-scale microsystems to large scale industrial processes).

Professional perspectives

The MSc program educates students, using integrated multi-disciplinary strategy with attention for modeling, signal processing, controller design, and system analysis. It will provide top-quality expertise and skills for a succesfull professional career in either research, technology development, or any other professional environment.
