Detailed
description of topics:
First part (one dimester):
Teamwork
During the first part of this course the students get acquainted with some in-group
processes of teamwork. The teamwork teachers reflect on the behavior of individuals, while
exercising their teamroles in the business game (see section 2). This is followed by
separate teamwork sessions, in which the teachers go into experiences of the team members.
They also go into related subjects such as: discussion, meeting and negotiation
techniques. Its in the interest of the students to practice and experience these
techniques, since teamwork covers a great part of the course.
Business Game
During the business game, introductory lectures, self-study and instructions are built
into a management game. The objective is to learn the economical aspects of an enterprise
and to manage it integrally by activity-based learning. Here, emphasis lays on defining
and achieving targets and business policy, as well as on decision-making in only a short
space of time.
Second part (one dimester):
Manufacture Games
Industrial situations are (hand)simulated here and are a "voyage of discovery".
The simulations quickly give insight in the complexity of industrial manufacturing. The
activity-based learning concept is used here.
Group Literature study / Aristotle
During the literature study, the program focuses working in a large project team (25
students). How to split up a big assignment, how to communicate, how to tackle a research
project on literature? During the project the students gather information and obtain
knowledge on some business subjects, discus and process them, and finally produce a
report. This report will be presented to each other and offered to the teachers.
Kasta Case
This is practical work in a virtual company with the help of a multimedia case.
The students get acquainted with Kasta NV, a company which produces switch-cupboards, via
an interactive computer case. This is done by several tours in the company to chart the
production process, and by several interviews with company members. In this way the
students oversee the various processes of the company and draw conduct. The final
assignment is solving a business problem. The recommendations have to be put in a report,
which has to be defended in front of and presented to the board of directors.
