Micromanufacturing
of turbine blades |
|
Brief Explanation |
This research is part of the
development of a fuel-based micro power generation system. The system
typically has a diameter of 20 mm is 50 mm long and consists of a compressor,
combustion chamber, turbine and compressor. It has a power output of
typically 10-100 W. The manufacturing of turbine
blades able to withstand high speeds (typ. 500.000 rpm) and high temperatures
(> 1200K) is a very challenging problem. Investigation in this
project will be on micro-milling or micro-EDM techniques for manufacturing a
monolithic turbine in ceramics and on the application of high-temperature
resistant coatings. |
