Faculty/Department/Institute

Department of Adaptive Machine Systems, Graduate School of Engineering

Group Name

Design of Adaptive Intelligence

Research Theme

Control of Pneumatic Actuated Robot

Brief Explanation

An antagonistic pair of pneumatic actuators gathers research attention because of its mechanical similarity to biological systems.  However, controlling it is difficult since its dynamics is complicated.  In this study, we design not only the controller, but also the mechanism and re-design the task to realize energy-efficient and high-speed movement.

Research Steps

1. Literature survey (one month)

2. Developing a pneumatic actuated robot (one month)

3. Learning to control the robot (one months)

4. Developing a controller and testing on the robot (two month)

Period

10-month project including hardware experiments.

Necessary Background, Knowledge, Skills

Fundamental knowledge about control theory and dynamical systems

Computer programming skills

If necessary, some references can be specified.
