Group Name

Solid Mechanics

Research Theme

Design and Mechanical Assessment of your own Nanostructures

Brief Explanation

Scale dependency on mechanical behavior of the nanostructures is the most attractive topics due to the drastic change of their surface-volume ratio. In this research, the original nanostructure will be designed according to your own idea and manufactured by the focus ion beam – chemical vapor deposition (FIB-CVD) technique. Then, the structural rigidity will be evaluated by searching the resonance frequency of the nanostructure in the scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Research Steps

1. Designing the nanostructure for the desired purpose and performing its structural analysis.

Leaning how to use the FIB-CVD technique (two month)

2. Manufacturing the structure by FIB-CVD (one month)

3. Measuring the resonance frequency of it and comparing with the elastic dynamical calculation (two months)

Period

5 months, but can be extended as a 10-month project, by including hardware experiments.

Necessary Background, Knowledge, Skills
