Research Theme

Simulation of linear object deformation

Brief Explanation

Analysis and estimation of linear object deformation such as fibers, strings, or threads is important in textile industries or medical field. In this study, static (and dynamic) deformation of linear objects will be modeled and simulated.

Research Steps

1. Literature survey (one month)

2. Modeling static deformation of linear objects (one month)

3. Implementing a simulator (two months)

4. Verification of simulation results by experiments (one month)

Period

5 months, but can be extended as a 10-month project, by considering modeling of dynamic deformation

Necessary Background, Knowledge, Skills

Fundamental knowledge about mechanics of materials.

Computer programming skills.

If necessary, some references can be specified.
