DeMaMech: EU-Japan Collaboration in Higher
Education Student Exchange Program
Offer of Research Topic
Offer from |
University |
Delft University of Technology |
Faculty/Department/Institute |
Faculty of Mechanical,
Maritime and Materials Engineering, Department of Biomechanical Engineering |
|
Group Name |
Delft Biorobotics
Laboratory |
|
Research Theme |
Compliant manipulation |
|
Brief Explanation |
In addition to factory robots, robotic development
now also aims at applications outside the factory. Such robots must be lightweight
and compliant in order to be safe for their environment (e.g. for human-robot
interaction). This research project will focus on the development of
compliant robot arms and hands. |
|
Research Steps |
1. Literature survey (one month) 2. Design of compliant (part of) hand or arm (one month) 3. Production, assembly, and debugging (two months) 4. Performance experiments and tests (one month) |
|
Period |
5 months. |
|
Necessary Background, Knowledge, Skills |
Fundamental knowledge about mechanical engineering. Mechanical design skills. Mathematical analysis skills (e.g. for geometry and
dynamics). |

Ps: we prefer to host two students
simultaneously rather than sequentially. The above project description is the
same for the two students; we will separate into two distinct projects once we
know the exact background of the studentsŐ education.
