Faculty/Department/Institute

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Marine Technology and Material Science, Department of Biomechanical Engineering

Group Name

Delft Center for Systems and Control

Research Theme

Distributed Control of a deformable mirror in Adaptive Optics

Brief Explanation

Adaptive Optics is the major theme in optical instruments used in a telescope, lithography, optical communication, etc. The planned increase in dimension of deformable mirror excludes the use of a centralised controller design. Therefore the DCSC is presently conducting innovative research on distributing the controller activity over a large array of control units that only communicate with their neighbours.

Research Steps

1.  Literature survey on distributed modeling (three month)

2.  Developing an identification method for distributed control (five month)

3.  validating the implemented method in simulation and on a breadboard (two month)

Period

10 months but can be tuned for 5 months

Necessary Background, Knowledge, Skills

Fundamental knowledge about control engineering

Computer programming skills.
