Offer of Research Topic

Offer from

University

University of Tokyo

Faculty/Department/Institute

Faculty of Engineering, Department of Precision Engineering

Group Name

Fine Digital Engineering Lab.

Research Theme

Reverse Engineering using X-ray CT scanner

Brief Explanation

Recent rapid advancement in X-ray CT (Computed Tomography) scanners for industrial applications opens up new research domains. In this project, a method (theory and algorithm) is investigated to analyze 3D CT image by developing prototype software. One major topic will be to extract a part structure from CT image of a complex assembly to generate abstract representation of the assembly. This project will be conducted under our collaborative research project with Toyota Motor Corp. and Hitachi Ltd.

Research Steps

(Tentative plan)

1. Study on fundamentals and 3D CG programming practice (two month)

2. Data acquisition and algorithm development (four months)

3. Software design, prototyping, and evaluation  (three months)

4. Writing the final report (one month)

Period

10 months

Necessary Background, Knowledge, Skills

(preferred) computer programming and computer aided design
