Description of the main subject:

The field of Logistics relates to the acquisition, transport, transfer, storage and provision of goods. The American Council of Logistics Management gives the following characterization: ALogistics is the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, cost-effective flow and storage of raw materials, in-process inventory, finished goods and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of confirming to customers= requirements@. This comprises both a physical and a managerial component. The physical component relates to the physical-logistic aspects of goods, supply and demand processes, separate means of transport and those integrated in a logistic configuration. The managerial component relates to policy, coordination and control of goods flows and logistic machinery. The centre point of the Technical Logistics course is made up of the logistic functions of machinery and the managerial component, especially with regard to methodical design, development, optimization and verification by means of simulation techniques. Operations Research and Information Technology take up an important place as auxiliary disciplines.
