and Organization Mechanization of Production |
Professor: Prof. ir. H.A. Crone
Description of the Laboratory:
Nearly everywhere we find products that are produced with production machines. In a bar we drink beer from identical bottles and the next day we use aspirin which is packed in a pill-box. Only few people know that in one factory more than 20 million bottles are manufactured per day. Besides the production, the bottles must be filled, labelled and packed into a crate.
The labels must be decorated with more than one colour, glued, and placed on the bottle. This is what we call Mechanisation of Production.
Mechanisation of Production is engaged in the design of new and the analyses and improvement of existing production machines and processes. To accomplish this, a good knowledge of the design process and the available technical means (controllers, mechanical and servo-controlled drives, sensors and electronic measurement devices) as well as knowledge of the possibilities of application of these means is necessary. This knowledge is evaluated with and applied in industrial assignments. By doing so, the laboratory keeps an up to date view on the continue changing needs of the industrial life.
Within the laboratory the main activities are the development of computer support for the creative design process and the synthesis and analyses of mechanisms and other moving parts within a machine. Support of the design process is required to find the most suitable design in a structured way. To determine the quality of the design, an analyses during the design process is required. Therefore several algorithms and computer programmes are developed with which the kinematic and dynamic behaviour of mechanisms can be predicted.
